Samsung to get ‘new’ Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip in March?

It’s the rumour that will not go away, and the longer Qualcomm remains silent in the face of continuous rumours, the worse it appears: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, presumed to power several certain high end cellphones, is suffering from overheating difficulties.

To recap: over the last couple of weeks we have discovered that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will rely less heavily on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (DigiTimes), or even dump it completely in favour of its own Exynos chips (Bloomberg).

Some questions that instantly spring to mind:

  • Is this additional “confirmation” that there is an overheating issue with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor? (The “source” doesn’t particularly mention overheating)
  • The Sony Xperia Z4 and HTC One M9 “Hima” were anticipated to follow suit

For what it is worth, an LG exec wonders what all the fuss is all about, and says the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is simply good.

Necessarily we’ll hear more on this particular story next week, but with Qualcomm’s shares taking a hit after the bit of Bloomberg, it may be worth fire out something official. Guys?
